Have you played Turok 2: Seeds of Evil? What? You've never heard of it? Thats not suprising as this game never did gain much popularity. Released by Acclaim in Early 1999, this game never did hit the expectations that some people thought it would. I have only played the single player version of this game a few times because I think the online play was so much better. This, as is much of the multiplayer gaming scene, is another classic 3d run and gun game where the person with the most frags wins. It has about 14 levels for the classic death match(known as a Rok match in Turok 2). It also has about 10 levels for arena matches and 3 levels for capture the flag. It has a variety of weapons including unique ones such as the cerebal bore and the plasma rifle. The graphics, while not the best in the gaming scene now, were very good for its time. Sound was not bad, but what made the game different from others was its text to speech feature. This feature made it possible for people to hear the words that someone typed. The game has unique way of dealing with lag that could make or break a game. While it was hailed by many who play because the lag was easier to deal with for those with weaker connections, the lag hurt those who had better connections. In the end the lag wasn't any better in this game than it is for those games now out in the market.

The Good
The game had great play and could provide fun for hours. Unique weapons make the game hard to beat for pure action and the game is slower paced than many others, making it easier to learn. There still aren't many people playing multiplayer making it a small gaming community where everyone knows everyone. There is a small group of loyal players that stick with the game. Several different characters make the multiplayer more interesting because not everyone will use the same character.

The Bad
No game support. Acclaim sees the game as a failure and thus they won't pay to have anything else done with it. The last patch released was 1.04. This fixed some minor bugs, but since then major problems have been found with the game. Several different cheats have been found in the muliplayer. The ability to shoot through walls has been found to be a problem. No mods. Acclaim never released the source code for the game and thus nobody was able to make any mods, additions weapons, maps, or any of the other things that make mods great to play. Lag can make or break a game. The lag can get nasty during matches and can affect the outcome. This is nothing new as other games deal with this same problem. No servers. Acclaim pulled its servers in May of 1999 after they thought it wasn't worth the money to keep them up. In the begining there were a lot of servers, but almost all of them are gone now. A few of the loyal fans to the game still setup servers to keep the game going. The gaming community is not what it used to be. Many of the better players have left for other games and left the game with newbies.

Conclusion. The game will be great for the hardcore gamer. Those who love to see something different should like this game. For the average gamer though, this game doesn't quite cut it. There are too many problems that have yet to be dealt with for it to go anywhere. I know many people who have attempted to get help from Acclaim only to be shot down. For all that this game has, it could have been great. Acclaim had a winner here, but they neglected it after they made it. If you want to see something different, download the demo for this game from www.turok.com before you buy it. If you are a casual player, then this game is probably not for you.

Rating Scale

1 - Pure trash. If you bought a game of this score and cannot return it for some reason, than take the game down to the beach/pond and skip it across the water because thats about as much fun as you are going to get from this CD.
2 - One step up from bottom feeders.
3 - Still stinks.
4 - A little bit closer to being just ok.
5 - Average, nothing to see here folks, move on.
6 - A little bit above average, may appeal to the hard-core gamer of this game's genre.
7 - Above average in most catagories but some major flaws/ lack of replayability etc are keeping this game from being a "must have".
8 - A game of this score did it right. Above average and worth buying.
9 - This game rocks and would appeal to most gamers. A "Must have" title. Did everything about as right as you can expect. Some small problem areas.
10 - Perfection. Sweetness. Oh happy days......
