Who Cares?
Who Cares? Obviously Acclaim doesn't. If you bought Turok 2: Seeds of Evil for the PC, you most likely understand what I mean. When you buy a game, you do plan to get your moneys worth, right? Hopefully not when you bought T2, because you wouldn't have. "Why bash a huge company like Acclaim that gave us Turok in the first place," you ask? It's basicly to warn you and hopefully open Acclaim's eyes to the fact that your customers come a little bit before the money. And by the way, Acclaim didn't make Turok, Iguana did.

Here's the story for those that don't know. Turok 2: Seeds of Evil for the PC is a great game. It features graphics much better than the N64, and no slow framerates to name a few. Here is the problem. Turok 2 comes with multiplayer games that matched and exceeded many multiplayer games to this day, but Acclaim didn't ever focus on it. For about three months, Acclaim supported the multiplayer games with servers, and one patch. But then the fourth month had to come. Acclaim never made another patch even though the game was in great need of them, the server they supplied for webmasters to host would crash every few hours, and basicly, they didn't care.

Now this is the thing that really gets to me besides the fact that Acclaim never did realize the amazing game they had at hand. One of Acclaims customers (this most likely happened to more than one person) sent e-mail after e-mail trying to find out any information at all regarding Turok 2 and what would be done about the problem. Acclaim would either not reply at all, or reply making it sound like they cared. I have those e-mails just so there is plenty of proof. This is a series of letters sent and recieved by a Turok 2 clan member. Here they are.

Here is one of the first letters sent:
Hey, I a few questions You said that there wouldnt be a conversion of rage wars..Well are you planning on making a game based on the turok2 multiplayer engine? Yes i know that maintaning the servers costs money we have a few nice people thatr run servers for us couldnt you just think of running some?(well this isnt really important) BUT THIS IS there a MAJOR bugs in this game i will tell you a few of them then you will maybe consider making a patch someone has learned that by typing a certain hack code in the console allows you to see through walls which enables peoeple to stand at a wall and shoot everyone in the level with out people even knowing....there a new bugs poping up every day...there is one bug where you press press strafe left and forward if you hold it for long enough you will walk straight through the wall!! and people hide in there and shoot you from inside the wall the peoeple in the game cant see them....another bug is (there are many of these) if i got a a particular spot in a level and press jump quickly you go up through the roof....In arena there is one level when you jump over the edge you get stuck...and someone in the game has cracked it by allowing him self to be not killable you shoot him 100 times he wont die his name is Cptn hacker.i think his a hacker anyway THAT IS JUST A SAMPLE OF THE BUGS WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH WHEN WE PLAY TUROK2 Onto the question sheet..someone that one of my friends rang said on the phone that "they were amazed that people still play turok 2" and that he was going to send us all a question sheet!!
thank you
James

Here was their response:
There will not be a conversion of Rage Wars to PC because we felt that the N64 would be the best format for it.
Maintaining servers takes time and money and there simply isn't enough demand for online Turok 2 for us to make it wholly worthwhile. Also when there is a consistent bug we do try to make patches, but currently most of the remaining bugs are solved through updating drivers. If you have anything specific we can see if there is a simple answer.
I am afraid I have nothing on record that details sending your friend a question sheet - this was probably due to the person who took the call thinking you were going to send us one.
I hope this is of use to you.

Obviously no help that time. Here was the next recorded letter to be sent:
HELLO, PLEASE READ THIS
OK now the exact problem is acclaim you have stopped running servers for turok 2. I have been playing it ever since the demo came out i love thi sgame and i cant believe you can just forget about the people who love this game. Turok 2 beats the hell out of quake ut, and so on..NOW ON TO THE MAJOR PROBLEM WITH TUROK 2 THERE SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR BUG IN THIS GAME THAT YOU HAVENT FIXED IF YOU TYPE A CERTAIN HACK CODE IN THE CONSOLE YOU CAN SEE THROUGH WALLS WHICH ENABLES YOU TO SEE THE WHOLE LEVEL WHICH MEANS PEOLPE CAN JUST STAND AT ONE WALL AND SHOOT EVERYBODY THAT WALKS PAST WITHOUT THE PLAYER WHO GOT SHOT EVEN KNOWING ABOUT IT NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THIS BUT IF THIS GETS OUT THIS GAMES WILL BE RUINED IS THERE ANY CHANCE OF MAKING A PATCH FOR THIS GAME. ALSO THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF BUGS STILL IN T2, WALKING THROUGH WALLS, GHOSTS, I KNOW YOU DONT WANT TO SPEND ANY MORE MONEY ON THIS GAME, SO MY NEXT QUESTION IS CAN YOU "think" ABOUT MAKING A NEW GAME THATS BASED ON TUROK2 THE WAY THAT THERE IS NO "SHOOT LAG" THIS GAME PLAYS ALOT DIFFERNENT TO ALL THE OTHER MULTIPLAYER GAMES I HAVE PLAYED AND I LOVE IT. IT SEEMS A REAL SHAME YOU GUYS DONT CARE ABOUT US ANYMORE :( PLEASE EMAIL BACK A MESSAGE (if you even read this) OR TELL ME WHO I CAN TALK TO ABOUT THIS PLEASE....THankyou

Many People love this game you had a hit on your hands ..but you caused this game downfall..this game is much better than UT and quake 3 !

Here was his reply from Acclaim:
==Hmm... well, he got no reply to this letter.==

The next letter sent was not recorded, but it had to do with how Turok 2 is better than Q3 and UT. Here was the reply he recieved:
"I have forwarded your message to the creative director in the USA - hopefully he will be able to give you a good answer...As it is, I agree with what you are saying, though the online market is (fairly) sewn up by he Quake/Unreal community. At the moment there are no details available on Turok 3 (yet!), but maybe your points will be rectified by then. I hope so because I am a gamer and I know Turok could and shouldbe the last word in FPS!"

Of course there was no reply from the Creative Director, so he sent another message asking why there was no response. Here was his answer:
"Unfortunately, due to our rather hectic schedule (Turok 3/Armorines/Rage Wars etc) there has been no reply as yet. I have spoken to the guys in the States and they are looking into the situation."

Let me just comment here. Why would the person checking the e-mail be busy with Turok 3, Armorines, and Rage Wars?

It had been 4 months since that last letter. No replys, no nothing. He decided to write a new letter, but not take the concerned customer approach anymore. Neither would I.

If Acclaim were concerned, this would most likely get to them, but here was what they had to say:

Well, so far no help on getting patches or servers fixed. Even anger won't help. So he tried simple first grade logic:

Acclaim comes up with an original reply:

Knowing what would happen, he replied informing them of what happened the last time they forwarded to someone else. To this they replied:
Thank you for contacting Acclaim Entertainment.
Please E-mail us your inquiry and we will do the best
we can to solve
any
issues you have with our game. If you are not
satisfied with Turok 2,
we
would be happy to exchange it for Shadowman,
Trickstyle, Revolt or
Chef's
Luv Shack. All we would need for you to do is send us
back Turok 2 UPS
to:
Consumer Services
One Acclaim Plaza
Glen Cove, NY 11542

This that we have shown you was just a fraction of the e-mails sent by this one customer. Just think of all the rest that must have sent letters regarding the same topic. And notice how they never once mentioned fixing the topics that arose. Acclaim has yet to make any changes to the game patches or servers. They most likely won't either. Even if they learn from their mistakes and make the changes in Turok 3, that means we have to pay 60 more bucks for the new game! I hope I didn't scare any of you away from buying future Turok games as i'm sure they will fix this next time. I just wanted you all to know that the multiplayer games arn't what they appear to be on the box. Other than that, Turok 2 is a great first person single player shooter.

The letters in this editorial were from a Turok 2 clan member called B!tchass.
