This was the probably my one of my favorite times in
Turok 2. There was so much was happening during this time
that it made it very exciting. I would call this the
Golden Age of the Turok 2 community, if there is such a
thing. RoH put together its first stellar line up, AC was
starting out with its clan, LL was also beginning. XTC
was created during this period as well if I do remember
correctly. Many other clans were formed during this time.
AA also had a solid line up and the first PK was very
active during this time as well. The Acclaim servers were
actually up and working during this time also. Acclaim
would setup as many as 6 to 8 servers, all of which could
hold 16 people at a time. They had servers for Rok, Team
Rok, Arena, Team Arena, CTF and also Pain matches. Pain
matches were matches where the weapons did not remain and
the player with the most pain won the match. The lag in
the servers was also much less than what it is presently.
The frequent complaints of lag, that I see many times in
servers now, did not happen as often back then. Many
people were also hosting there own servers as well. Grul
was one of these people. Grul would host servers at night
and RoH would frequently dominate all night until the
server crashed at some early hour of the morning. Other
servers included the TVO server, and later on the Gsurf!
Servers. If there was a server up, chances are that it
would be filled. This was the beginning of Turok 2 for
many players. The base of the Turok 2 was built during
this period. Henrychan, Vicious Young, Rogue Killer,
HaDeS, WaveX, Tossed SaladMan, Scarab, Maniac, Vertigo,
Napalm, Bond, Bungle, Frasse, M@x+, Neb, Killer Z, Havok,
Wood Pussy, and many other names that I can no longer
recall were the best players in Turok 2. Was there a
dominant clan? Well, yes and no. RoH was probably the
dominant clan for Turok 2 through this period. We had
more members than LL, we had done well against other
clans such as ALN, and were overall very well balanced.
We could dominate the game when we went into servers.
Throughout the community though, we were probably not
seen as the top clan. We saw ourselves as the top clan
much like other clans did during this time. It was just
fun overall to play matches against anyone during this
time. No one took screen shots of matches, there was a
minimal number of people who used more than one name.
Most of the errors, flaws and cheats hadn't been found
yet making it easier to enjoy the game. Fighting was at a
low too during this time. Though the community was not as
well connected as it is now, there was still a lot of
talking between clans and their members. In general, most
people were friends, most rivalries hadn't started yet.
Turok was in its infancy, only a few clans had web pages
up. With the connection between clans being weak though
also made it more difficult for any clan matches. This is
one period in Turok that will never be repeated, it is in
my mind, the best, and most fun time I had playing this
game.
